I’m excited because this is the first episode of the own your life podcast. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a very long time, but now, I’ve stopped making excuses and here I am! For the first episode I thought it would be good idea to kind of explain what this podcast will be about. But first I will tell you a little bit about myself.

So, my name is Neha and today I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in the Netherlands and my parents are South-Indian immigrants. I’m currently in business school. and I’ve learned a lot about planning and organization. When I was in secondary school I was diagnosed with ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder. I had a hard time trying to get my thought in order and making friends. I took medications for it, Ritalin to be more specific, but it gave me the worst side effects. It gave me really bad social anxiety. I started skipping lectures and every time I did go to school I felt a lump in my throat the whole time.

Every time someone would just try to start a conversation with me my heart would drop. I couldn’t look them in the eyes an talk to them at the same time and would do pretty much anything to get out of the situation. It just made me look rude and antisocial. Ritalin dulled my appetite and and I lost about 10 pounds because of it. It eventually got so bad that I had to take a break from college. I stopped taking Ritalin. I slowly got better and went back to school the next year, BUT my mind was still a mess. In business school I learned some planning and organization skills and I kind of applied them to my personal life. This helped me manage my ADD and so my personal life, a great deal.

I loved watched self-improvement YouTubers like Matt D’avella, Lavendaire and Rowena Tsai. They kind of inspired me to share my planning and organization skills with others online. I started a YouTube channel at first, but I’m not good in front of the camera, I needed better visuals and the video editing took a lot of time. Podcasting seemed like a great alternative and so I created The Own Your Life Podcast. A podcast here to help you live and not just exist.

I learned things in Business School and in my personal journey that I think could be useful for a lot of people. I’m not an expert as I’m still on my own journey of lifestyle improvement. I mean, I still live in a twenty square meter apartment in Sout-East Amsterdam. It’s really ghetto. Litterally every time I open the window, my apartment will smell like pot. Yup, we’re in this together. I’m moving forward and learning things along the way.

When people hear the word success, they usually think of having a big house and a fancy car, but that is not my definition of success. My definition of success for now is to be financially stable, having certainty and being happy, having the right people around me.

What is your definition of success? And how can you be successful in the next 2 months? Think of something that you can accomplish within the last two months of this year.

For example: I want to consistently post podcasts every sunday for the next 2 months. If I can do that, I’m successful.

Set an achievable goal.

If you finally start working on something that you have been procrastinating for weeks, months, maybe even years, you’re successful.

If you pass an important exam, you’re successful.

If you lose the pounds you may have gained during quarantine, much like myself, you’re successful.

Setting a goal is just the beginning of course. On The Own Your Life Podcast, I’ll be discusssing planning and organization, discipline, motivation and of course the inevitable obstacles, toxic relationships, mental health issues, and much more.

In the next episode I will be discussing how to set SMART goals, so stay tuned if you’re interested.
